STANDARD FIVE
Managerial Leadership
Principals will ensure that the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem-solving, communicating expectations and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines in the building. The principal must be responsible for the monitoring of the school budget and the inclusion of all teachers in the budget decision so as to meet the 21st century needs of every classroom. Effectively and efficiently managing the complexity of everyday life is critical for staff to be able to focus its energy on improvement.

A. School Resources and Budget: The school executive establishes budget processes and systems which are focused on, and result, in improved student achievement.
Title I Fund Usage Justification
While organizing a required certification for certain staff to be CPI trained, I had to work with our Title I Coordinator and our Bookkeeper to include funding justification aligning with our school improvement plan when sending in a prior approval for the professional development. This PDF outlines my work with our budget to get books for the training along with substitutes to cover the vacancies during the training sessions. |

Budget Project
This project required me to analyze a real-world situation dealing with a school budget and meeting goals set by a school improvement plan. This strategic planning is required of all effective school leaders and this low-risk situation allowed me to do the work without the fear of failure but just focus on the line items and how to work with budget allowances. |
B. Conflict Management and Resolution: The school executive effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interaction so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Formative Assessment Day - Prioritizing Conflict Management
During our Fall 2019 semester, the formative assessment task required each fellow to organize a laundry list of urgent matters into a priority list. Once we had set up a plan to resolve each issue, we were then asked to formulate an actual response to each scenario as if it were really happening. This was set up in as relevant and real-time as possible which allowed us each to see how we work under pressure and read into situations differently compared to our peers.

C. Systematic Communication: The school executive designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.

Cup of Joe - Weekly Staff Newsletter
I communicated with staff through a weekly newsletter that outlined needed information for the coming days as well as sharing best practices for student engagement and Continuing Education Credit opportunities. I would ensure to include procedural clarification if the administration is observing a lack of follow through as well as highlighting events coming up. I coordinate needed information with my mentor principal to ensure all topics are added. This is important as a lead learner to communicate a variety of information in a clear and consistent way. |
D. School Expectation for Student and Staff: The school executive develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
Faculty Handbook and Student/Parent Handbook
I ensured that all handbooks were updated with new school-wide protocols as well as schedules, expectations, and dates for the new school year. This process was important as a new administrator coming into a new site to learn the expectations of staff as well as students. |
